Sept 25 Letter to Parents

September 25 Letter to Families
Posted on 09/25/2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,

This email is meant to provide additional information regarding the recent COVID-19 case at Sunapee Middle High School. Yesterday evening the District was alerted to the positive case, and we immediately followed our protocol by contacting the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (NH DHHS) and the New Hampshire Department of Education (NH DOE). Based on the time of this communication and wanting to ensure that we have all the facts in place so that we can have clear communication with our community and individuals who may have had close contact and also the time to deep clean the middle high school facility, we made the decision to cancel school for that facility today.

The teachers, students and parents that may have had close contact with the positive individual will be receiving communication from NH DHHS as well as a call from my office directly today. The exact time you will be contacted by DHHS has not been communicated to us as of this email. During that phone call you will be given specific instruction as to steps to follow. If we were told that any other faculty or families had direct exposure, they would have been contacted and other facilities would also have been closed.

Our primary concern last evening was to get communication out to the families and staff of Sunapee Middle High School. We understand that this may have caused some concerns for families attending Sunapee Central Elementary School as to why they did not receive this information as well last night. Our primary process will be to contact the highest risk individuals as identified in collaboration with DHHS and to get a more general communication out to all as information becomes clearer. As an administrative team, we will debrief this situation early next week to look for where we can make improvements to our processes if another situation were to take place in the schools.

Based on the current information, we will have all school facilities open on Monday, September 28th for all students and faculty unless they have been instructed not to attend. The safety of all within our schools and our community is our top priority, and we will continue to follow the protocols we have in place. This is a good opportunity for us as a community to remain diligent with our protocols. We thank everyone for being patient as we continue to navigate the situation as well as continue to provide quality instruction to all our students.

Please remember: If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 such as a fever, chills, respiratory illness, aches or change in taste and smell, please stay home and away from others and get a COVID-19 PCR test. You may also choose to seek out testing from your healthcare provider or at one of the testing sites located throughout the state (

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
